I am looking to integrate gaming experience with Kodi without going the Windows or Mac OS route. I heard Steam is pretty good and the newest big thing in the gaming world. From what I understand the platform is Linux based so are there any plans for a Steam port of Kodi?

Port to steamos? No porting to be done it is just rebranded debian. There is even a repo, see stickies in general help

just do a google search for XBMC/Kodi on SteamOS and you'll find the install instructions - so it's already working.
