NAS to use as a media server
#1
Hi all,

I have a Synology DS212j with movies.

My goal it's to make them available to my familly.

With my ISP I have 80mb download / 6mb upload.

Yesterday, I was with my brother on his house (he have Raspberry pi B+ with openelec). I add "my source from my Synology) as NFS.

However, I was really dissapointed, cause I had a lot of freezes, and I have tried MKV's (15gb) and lower ones, like avi or divx of 600mb... all of them was freezing, and lot!!!

Can anyone please advise me what to do in order to achieve my goal?

Many many thanks

I do this exact same thing when I am out and about although my set up is a bit different from yours. Ideally, I want my family/friends to download the files from my NAS rather than stream for many obvious reasons.

However, I do stream at times, when I am round a friends house. I use FTP Though, rather than NFS. It works without any problems. I have unfortunately had no exposure to NFS
