Android Kodi 14.0 BETA 4 doesn't ask for U:P to access SMB shares
#1
Just want to post what i think is a bug in the latest beta (beta 4) and see if anyone else encounters it.

Hardware: Nexus Player
Software: Fresh factory reset of Android 5.0 Build LRX21M
Kodi: 14.0-BETA4 Git:2014-11-24-ec361ca-dirty

I can add a SMB network share to my video library (Video->Files-Add videos...) fine only if the network share allows anonymous access.

If the SMB network share requires a username and password Kodi pop's up with a error box with no text and doesn't ask for the username/password. There is no way to provide a username and password to access protected shares right now.

The image below is of the error box i get when trying to access any network SMB share that requires credentials (username:password)

I have the debug log with SMB logging here:
http://pastebin.com/gnmixRjZ

Computer names are fileserver (freenas) and madcow (windows 7 pro)
//fileserver/download/ does not require credentials (username:password)
//fileserver/andrew/ requires credentials (username:password)
anything on //madcow/ requires credentials (username:password)

Before doing a factory reset of the nexus player, i was running XBMC 13.2 which had no problem acessingin all the SMB shares.

One last note; great work on the rest of 14 beta 4.. video playback has been fantastic so far!

I played around with my forum search terms some more and found someone else having a similar issue with kodi 14 beta 4, this time on an amazon fire.

I've posted this before regarding smb shares, and that is I've always just started with "add network location" and setup smb from there. Sometimes on clean installs it would let me access smb share once, but then whenever I would go back to add more it doesn't see my comp anymore.

Adding a network location as mentioned from your link works every time for me.

I updated to Beta5 from pre XBMC v12.0 on (ARM) and I can't connect to protected SMB share on a Windows XP machine.
Long time XBMC user, and up until tonight when I updated to Beta5 I have never had connection issues with my SMB shares and XBMC.

Something going on anyone know a work around?

Is fixed: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/5820
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

So kodi-20141126-488627a-master-armeabi-v7a works on the smb share but now it seems video hardware acceleration on just results in a black screen but with audio. Turning hw accelerate off just gives me chop for video.
