[XBMCbuntu] diskfilter writes are not supported
#1
Hi!

I´m on XBMCBuntu now for about 1 week and i am very happy about it because all the troubles i´ve had with openelec in the past are gone away now.

But i have on problem that did allready exist on the fresh installed system.

When i start my HTPC and it starts to boot the system i get the error message "diskfilter writes are not supported".

After 5 - 10 seconds the systems goes on booting.

Does anyòne know how to skip this message?

Thx in advance! Wink

hmmm...

some guy in ubuntu forum said that this is a problem that should be solved by the builders of XBMCbuntu because the system doesn´t seem to use the grub.cfg for loading the system :|

Hmmm.... and yet it is discussed here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/468466/wh...-supported and here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...ug/1274320 which means, of course, that this is a bug in Ubuntu 14.04 (which XBMCbuntu Gotham is built upon) and has nothing to do with XBMC/Kodi itself.

Which did you try?
There are 4 distinct possibilities that I could find:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...omments/24
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...omments/34
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...omments/50
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...omments/54

Note that my system does not use LVM or RAID, so I am not affected by this issue.

Hmm.... I would have thought that at least one would have worked.

You did run "sudo update-grub" and reboot after each one?

Hmmm... I'm stumped. It seems that the published fixes are very hit-and-miss.

Well, fast forward 10 months and I now am facing the same issue. I bought a Zotac Zbox ID-18U Intel Dual Core 1.5GHZ DDR3 SATA3 HDMI DVI 2XUSB3.0 Barebone Mini PC, to use as a Kodibuntu box for the basement. I was hopping to replace the 8 year old PC that has been limping along with Kodibuntu. I went out and bought an SSD, hoping to have a fast booting HTPC. Installed Kodibuntu, selecting the LVM option. Ran into the dreaded "Error: Diskfilter writes are not supported.". Searched and found this page and many others. So far, I have tried over 8 different solutions (yes running sudo update-grub and rebooting every time, to no avail. Just can't get rid of the error. So when I boot, I wait for the error, press any key and in 4-5 seconds, Isengard 15.2 is up. However the error is driving me nuts (a little OCD).

So, I re-installed without LVM support. Same hardware, same drive. Now it takes 12 seconds to boot. Hmmmm. Rebooted several times, still takes 11-12 seconds. Re-installed again, selecting the LVM option, and got the error again. Rebooted, tried all 8 "fixes" again (sudo upgrade-grub and rebooting each time) and still no joy. However, if I hit any key when the message comes up, I boot up in 4-5 seconds.

WTF is going on? I'm sorry but the OCD is really kicking in and I'm beginning to obsess. My wife has been avoiding me for the past few days because of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated........HELP.
