So I have a custom built pc in a room in the basement and I am looking to hook that up to my tv upstairs to run xbmc.
What is the best option for this? Long hdmi cable? Also how could I control the tv screen with xbmc. As far as a wireless remote, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Long HDMI cable could be an option. Depends on how long the distance is. Some lower price cables could cause issues if they are longer than 10m. Upnp wouldn't be my way, because i read about that subtitles over upnp don't work.
For controlling XBMC you could use a smartphone app. This is connected via wifi. Depends on which system you are...android or IOS. For IOS I would recommend the official xbmc remote app. If you are on android, I would recommend Yatse. More flexible as the IOS app. Unfortunately there are no plans for Yatse on IOS.

Thank you for the quick response.
What about cat6 to hdmi extenders? Have you heard anything about those. As far as losing quality, etc.
My pc would probably be about 50 feet of cable.
