Are you using the default skin, Confluence, or a modified version of it?

Delete (or at least rename) the guisettings.xml file in your userdata folder.

Make a copy of it first. I'd like to see what setting is causing the issue. If you could paste the contents of guisettings.xml to pastebin.com or dropbox, that would be great. See
userdata folder (wiki) for location.

As a guess, I would suggest that those users having an issue with this had previously set XBMC to start in a window other than the default home window, such as the LiveTV window (which has been separated into TV and Radio windows), and then upgraded to Kodi Helix. As a result, Kodi can't display the window as it doesn't now exist.

I just left it alone for a few minutes. On one htpc I closed it down and then restarted it. On another, it populated the screen after a bit. Reading the log on the first, it was converting the mysql database to the newest version.
