Buffer Issue's Rasp Openelec with USB
#46
3 pages now, its about time you looked at the h264 content and encoding codec methinks.

Is this an issue with all files, or are we going around in circles just to get this one file playing ??

This makes it obvious that the files that stutter are high bit-rate files.
Use NFS, mount it on the pi via fstab, add as local source in Kodi. Short of that, your issue is throughput....

What are these BDMV problem files ?
Are they Windows Media Video ?
More info needed about the codecs, bitrate and audio on these problem files.
I believe the encoding bitrate on these will be too high for the RPi to handle no matter the amount of tweaking.

I suggest you download a program called Mediainfo to investigate.
When installing do NOT use the default option as all manner of crap will be in installed, deselect Norton etc.

Could you also make sure this is in your Config.txt on the RPi for overclocking:

force_turbo=1

ActionA , I found a description to make that work , but it tells me to go to /mnt directory, but i can't find it

wrxtasy BDMV are Blu-ray directory's

That's what I found, but troubles finding /mnt

OpenELEC is not Raspbian.

Use /media instead of /mnt. There is no /fstab to edit.

Add the mount command(s) to /storage/.config/autostart.sh which is a script that runs when OpenELEC is booted.

You may need to enable "wait for network" in OpenELEC settings.

Don't forget to add "-o sec=ntlm" to the mount command when mounting cifs/smb shares.

Mr Milhouse, thanks, that explains a lot .
In post #48 of this enormous topic, Action A describes a method to mount my nfs directory when booted.

I think he didn't know I'm using Openelec.
Sorry I was a bit hasty starting another topic about this issue.

I hope I find some manual to do so.

Have a look at this Wiki for NFS mounting with Openelec:

http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=...ork_shares

My crystalball is telling me that either:
a) The bitrate of the problem media is too high for the RPi to handle, even over NFS
b) PeterBoomhut is a tenacious bugger, that won't let the RPi get the better of him!

Anyone care to guess how many pages we will get to before the end of this soap opera ? Wink

And now just to add a bit more fuel and anticipation to the Mix:

I found the same article.

and it is WORKING! (for the most Bluray)

Glad to hear, lowering the CPU load by using NFS does have its advantages.

A few more RPi tips:
Turn RSS feed off.
Set System > Video Output > Vertical blank sync > to Always Enabled

My extra Config.txt settings when using Overclock Turbo:

Also add these:
over_voltage_sdram=4
gpu_mem=224
hdmi_ignore_cec_init=1
force_turbo=1

Everybody thanks, who's contributed to this -it seem to be- never ending story.
I hope some people will find some information and can use it.

The last code , I used was this:
Code:
[Unit]
Description=test nfs mount script

Requires=network-online.service

After=network-online.service

Before=kodi.service

[Mount]
# The share we want mount
What=192.168.1.125:/M_Bakema

# Where we want mount this share
Where=/storage/Bakema

# Any options you usually use with the "-o" parameter in the mount command
Options=

# filesystem type
Type=nfs

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

the "What" is of course my ip of the server, My Windows 7 PC (static), after de / my -name (M_Bakema) given through the nfs server.
the "Where" is a subdirectory on the rasp , here called "Bakema"
when you go fill your video database, you should search for "root" and then "Bakema"

In the image I have, there is a sample
just change directory to .config/system.d

PBH, any chance you can D/L MediaInfo and post up the bitrate, codec etc info of one of your video large BD rips please.
Instructions here:
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1893893

Choose one thats right one the edge of working / not working.
It would be good to see what the bitrate limit for the RPi is when NFS shares are mounted at the system level.
