Hi KODI-folks,
I was really glad when KODI finally showed up in the packman repositories for openSUSE and I gave it a try today, unfortunately I was not completely successful.
I am running openSUSE 13.2 and I use vdr 2.0.6 as backend for Live TV and for XBMC 13.2 I used xvdr as pvr plugin for XBMC by pipelka [1] - this works quite well. I also tried to use this setup in combination with KODI and after recompiling the pvr plugin live tv also worked but it shows significant artefacts and the stream also stutters. KODI also stutters when I used this plugin.
So, I asked google and found out that maybe vnsiserver is the preffered choice to connect KODI and vdr. This made me wonder a little, because some time ago I read somewhere that vnsiserver is considered outdated/dead and xvdr is the new plugin for the vdr-backend. I checked out the vnsiserver by FernetMenta [2] and built the vdr-plugin as well as the pvr-plugin for KODI and I had no difficulties to configure vdr to use the vnsiserver. As the kodi-package in the packman repository also ships the vnsi pvr-plugin I wanted to try this first. I was able to activate it in KODI and it started to import the channels from the backend, but it segfaults after a few seconds. Next, I tried to install the vnsi pvr-plugin I compiled myself from the sources I checked out from [2], but installing the plugin failed: The kodi log tells me that the plugin needs at least xbmc.gui version 5.0.1 that is not available. This is where I am now.
Mainly, I have a few questions, but if I get some hints regarding my vnsi problem, I would be very happy :-)
1. Which one is to be preffered: xvdr or vnsi or are both equal?
2. Where should I get vnsi from? I think [2] is the right location, but the KODI wiki [3] also mentions [4].
Thank you!
Ciao, Rosepeter
