Win Windows 8 - Kodi Freezing Upon Start-Up *Newbie!*
#1
Hi,

First post on the forum. Unfortunately I have very basic computing knowledge, so if anyone does reply, please talk to me like a complete idiot, as I will not understand any technical talk!! Rofl

I have tried a forum search, but with no luck to my particular issue.

Today ive successfully installed Kodi 14 on an old Laptop, and managed to get it running in a basic fashion. This laptop is running Windows 7.

I then tried to install and run Kodi on my Windows 8 laptop. Kodi will install, and I can open the program, but after a few minutes, or when I go to "Program > Add-on's," Kodi will freeze and crash.

I have tried to remove the program and re-install, but it continues to crash at the same point.

Could someone guide me into how I may resolve this issue? Ive got the old lap-top set up for the ids upstairs via the TV and they love it, but would like to be able to use my Windows 8 laptop in the same way.

Help appreciated!!

Enable debug logging, try and recreate the issue, and once it crashes, post back here with the link.

Thanks for the response!!

Enabled the debug logging and results are below..

Navigating through the menu is fine, but as soon as I get to "Settings" and try to upload from Zip, the system freezes. Kodi crashes and does not shut down, to the point that I have to turn the computer off to get it to start again.

Another issue is that when in Kodi, and I exit the program via the exit button, the program crashes, and I have to use Task Manager to close the application.

The logs are:

Help appreciated!

First Crash was when I went to Program > Add-on's.

Second Crash was when I simply opened Kodi, then used the exit button.

Your debug xbmc.log: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=Removed
Your debug xbmc.old.log: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=Removed

Each time I have to open Task Manager to exit the program.

Help appreciated!

Its ok.... fixed it myself, but thanks for all the support (Queue Tumble weed......)

If anyone else is having a similar issue, it was down to the firewall settings. Kodi requires the Public Network settings to be allowed for it to function correctly. If you just have it set on Home Network then it seems to cause issues. Seems to happen on Windows 7 and 8, as ive just bought a PC unit for a living room entertainment system, and have experienced this problem (which is on windows 8).

Hope this can help someone!
