I tested the Japanese translation of Kodi and it look like there is no skin that only use unicode fonts, and only one that make partial use of a unicode font.

Is there any way to get Kodi properly working in a unicode language ?

Have you tried Mimic? You can change the font to Arial in the settings, should be unicode.

I can get Japanese and Korean text on reFocus using unicode. Default font won't display them. Mimic is based on reFocus. I will test that one later. Its home screen looks more polished than reFocus, but the menus are very similar. Both are super customizable.
