Hi,
I want to buy a home theater amplifier and I cannot find AAC decoding throught HDMI.
How Kodi is transmitting AAC 2.0 or 5.1 throught HDMI ?

Thanks but I have another question:
Does it output as PCM 5.1 or PCM 2.0 for AAC 5.1 ?

Should be 5.1. What box are you running Kodi on?

I use OpenElec on my Raspberry Pi. My current version of Kodi is Gotham.

Not sure if rbpi can do multichannel pcm - if not it would be transcoded to ac3 5.1 instead ... (not sure if rbpi is up to that task aswell...)

Two choices on Raspberry Pi and Helix:
Multichannel PCM only works over HDMI and supported hardware (available in Gotham too):
1. Set audio output to 5.1
2. Disable passtrhough
New feature in Helix for Pi is transcoding to AC3, but this only works with DVDPlayer (MMAL).
Note that this is not supported in Gotham:
1. Disable OMX acceleration in Settings - Video - Acceleration
2. See to that MMAL acceleration is enabled
3. Set audio output to 2.0
4. Enable passtrhough + enable transcoding in Settings - System - Audio
MMAL/DVDPlayer + transcoding will add some to CPU usage, but it seems like it is working quite well in Helix.
A moderate overclock might help too.
