Engadget's just announced the new Sling TV their overall winner for its Best of CES 2015 Awards, and as it is now a competitor to Kodi I like to ask the question why that is?

Dish newly announced relaunched Sling TV have got a huge amount of praise during CES 2015, but why is it such as success? And what can Kodi developers learn from it?

The new Sling TV is set to launch later this month by Dish, and according to Engadget it have the "potential to revolutionize TV watching habits"

What can Kodi's core, skinners, and addon developers learn from the new Sling TV features? And what functionality or ideas from it can Kodi developers steel or borrow?

I don't see how it's competition when it can't play local content.

Sling TV is a service. If anything, it looks to be a good complement to Kodi or any other cord-cutting set up. Set it up on Android and allow Kodi to launch the "Sling" app or whatever, and presto.

Why do people talk about everything as 'competition' for Kodi? Why can't it be a diverse ecosystem of options geared for different users and scenarios with the mutual goal of allowing them to enjoy their content?

i see this as a possible alternative to using an HDHomeRun if i could use the service with a pvr setup.
or as in my case ditch my eyetv HD. i currently only use it for OTA.
could that work?

Interesting idea, would it maybe be possible to write a new PVR addon client that could be used in Kodi for this Sling TV online service?

I mean something similar to the existing IPTV Simple Client addon http://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:IPTV_Simple_Client

Or will the new binary add-on system in Kodi make addons for proprietary services like this possible if they don't have an open API?

That is if this new Sling TV service even require a DRM or other secure connection using closed source technology?

Everything is this vs that.
Even in a discussion I had on another forum of Plex and Kodi, users were freaking out demanding I choose which one was better and "pick a team" lol so to speak. You can't find the merits of the good things of two different options. You have to just pick one and only use it!

Since Twilight and that #Team(Whatever the Two Main Characterse are) we are forced to choose which option is better).
