Win Setup to watch (and record) Live TV from Satellite provider
#1
So, right now I'm trying to build a solution that fits every aspect that I need and I stumbled upon a doubt that I have.

I have a Satellite service provider which gives me channels (in SD and HD) and decodes them using a box (the service is MEO Satellite and I live in Portugal/Spain). My goal was to set up a Media Center with Kodi and I was wondering if a simple PVR add on instalattion would allow me to receive the channels decoded and to change between chanells (I don't think so) and IF not, what is the solution I can come up to?

Right now I don't have neither the Media Center or any TV tuner bought, so you can suggest me whatever you think it would fit my interests the best.

I would love to have something like this:

- Satellite signal -> TV Tuner -> Kodi -> Live TV, where I would be able to switch channels INSIDE Kodi, and program recordings of the channels I would like and so on (the ULTIMATE goal is to be able to record live tv in HD).

The main difficulties I stumbled upon where:
- How can I watch the channels from my Satellite provider inside Kodi (and switch channels and so on)
- Which setup would suit my interests the best

Thanks in advance guys!

I'm the proud owner of such a setup and the only problem I have is Kodi not being able to demux half (or more) the channels/recordings you're talking about.
Meo and Zon share the same sat (30W) and some transponders and implemented a feature called shared PMT.

They aren't the only ones that use this and the same happens all over Europe, not just Portugal.

For reference, my setup looks like this:

- VuPlus box with Zon sat subscription with HDD for instant and scheduled recordings
- Server with movies/tv shows and a few services
- Several RPi's and other hardware across the house

Off-topic:

@FernetMenta, you being the most active DVDPlayer dev, do you think you can find some time to solve this? I can give you samples, access to my local network, compile code and test PRs, etc.

Some more information on trac.

And welcome, btw!

You first need a PVR backend, as the PVR backends that is the software or box/device that have the TV tuners which can decrypt/demux and either record or stream video to Kodi

http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR => http://kodi.wiki/view/PVR_backend

Either a Vu+ box/device or Raspberry Pi with USB-tuner and Tvheadned/VDR PVR backend could work as PVR backend a for you, Vu+ is more expensive but easier to maintain.

Regardless, I do not believe that your query belongs in the PVR development section, but rather in the PVR help and support section http://forum.kodi.tv/forumdisplay.php?fid=167

h.udo, how do You save TS files? What software do You use?
I have the same problem with a dozen of channels from polish provider Polsat, and I have created my own ticket here: http://trac.kodi.tv/ticket/16020
I think the main problem is that Kodi doesn’t play TS files like yours, while other players do. For example: MXPlayer, Windows PotPlayer, Samsung Galaxy S5 Video Player and probably much more, which I didn’t test.

So, We should forget about VU+ addon for a while Wink
