PBS ThinkTV.org Video Addon
I understand. Again, thank you for all of your efforts.
Good evening!

I have updated to version 2.0.4 and i notice my "PBS Station" in my options is blacked out. I checked my credentials on the website and they work ok. Is there anything i'm missing that i should do? should i clear some token or cache out to get this to activate?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Jeff

Version 2.0.4 has 'Local PBS Programs' on the main menu, if you have enabled login and the local station which you selected when you enrolled with PBS has local content. I would strongly recommend setting 'Reset Metadata' in the addon settings when you install or upgrade to this version. I would also recommend doing the same if you change your local PBS station in your PBS profile. Obviously the content will change based upon your local station. For those who live in less enlightened areas and want some interesting local content, I recommend either WNET in New York City or WGBH in Boston.

If you do not enable login and enter valid credentials, you will see a default subset of the videos available with no local content, no PBS favorites and no PBS watchlist. When you sign up for a PBS account, you specify your local station. Based upon that choice the video choices may be more or less. You may not be able to play all visible videos unless you are a PBS donor and have the "passport" service associated with your login credentials.

I would appreciate feedback on how the local programs work for folks. If it works for most, I will release 2.0.4 into the kodi.org repo.

Couple of things, when you say 'i notice my "PBS Station" in my options is blacked out' what exactly do you mean? The station ID will be in grey (or whatever the equivalent is in your skin) once the add-on has logged on (which it does to display the main menu). You will know that the login works when you see Local PBS Programs, PBS Favorites and PBS Watchlist appended to the main menu. I assume when you say 'in my options' that you mean add-on settings. You can try setting 'Reset Metadata Cache' under 'Meta Data Cache' in the add-on settings and then running the add-on.
Yeah! Resetting the metadata cache fixed it. I had an inkling thats what it was but i wasn't sure.

Thanks for your help!

Jeff
Just checked it out and everything is now working and i am seeing all of the nova episodes plus the local WETA specials.

My apologies for crying wolf to early Big Grin

Thank you for a wonderful plugin Wink

There have been several changes to the PBS site:
1) some content (most British shows) requires login and being a minimum $60 donor
2) the max resolution appears to be 720p
3) the navigation has changed.

I still have many things to do:
1) next page for large listings
2) add in navigation for the local and regional programs
3) add login
4) add watchlists

probably after the new year (sorry). I won't submit this to the kodi.org repo until better tested and more polished.

[EDIT] I will be breaking the PBS Kids into a separate video addon.

Sorry. I'm new to all of this. I bought from FireCore the aTV Flash (xbmc) edition for my old aTV (1st gen) and installed it. And under Video Add-on, I installed the PBS ThinkTV. Loved it. It is version 1.021. And then it stopped working and in researching why, I landed here. I don't see how to update this to your newest version, or to added a video add-on that is not in the list. Can you tell me how, or point me to where I can learn how? Thanks in advance for the help. Sincerely, GKent
You will need to update to the latest, just download learningit's Repository. Then install the latest version and you will be fine. Since it is all python code, it should work with out any problems. If you install learningit's repository it should install any necessary addon's for you.

Added Next Page on show listings. Small fix for Codacy check.

A Pull Request has been issued for the kodi.org repo, should update within a few days.

Never heard of this build, AFAIK you should never be paying for xbmc/kodi. Anyway, the new PBS ThinkTV addon require Kodi 15.2 or above to run. My guess is that you're running too old a version of Kodi.

He's probably not paying (directly) for xbmc/kodi but rather paying for a complete integration product which includes xbmc/kodi to run on his Apple TV.

The reality is that not everyone has developer or even (Linux, or otherwise) system building skills (or time or desire) and has (wants) to pay for the skills (or even just time) of somebody else. There is no reason why he shouldn't be able to do that.
Another absolutely useless comment above.

@GKent I had a look at firecore.com. The xbmc version bundled is 13.2, PBS ThinkTV requires 15.2 or above. You won't get a higher version because that is the last of xbmc.
You should have read through their forum and faqs - lots and lots of very unhappy folks. You can get the openelec build for free elsewhere.

Hello. How does one verify what version of PBS Think they currently have installed within Kodi?

(never mind i figured out how to check..) The one i have here says 3.0.1

However the newest one i can find online on the Kodi website, and that you posted above is 2.0.8?

So i have no idea how i have a newer version installed?

Where should i check for the latest version?

I was looking to update PBS ThinkTV, since right now almost none of the streams seem to work.

Almost all of the Nova Links seem to be dead, and just about every other Science show also no longer works.

Thanks in advance for this great plugin.
i know secrets of the dead seem to be premium only. Honestly don't be surprised if you have trouble with some nova links. PBS seems to have gone to a pay structure, launch a web browser and go to video.pbs.org. then select the same video you had trouble with. if you see a blue dot, it's premium only.

Go to the Add-Ons page and then select the add-on and then hit the context menu and choose Add-On Information. It'll be after Version on the top. I'm running version 3.0.1 from learningit's repo.

Hope this helps!
