I've been copying the IMGs of OpenELEC & Raspbian to the card, and so far it's up to 12.6GB used, 3.97 remaining. So I think it being a fake can be ruled out.

It's a bit more complex than that I believe. The best way of testing whether a card is actually doing what you think it is doing is to write data and then read it back and check it is identical. (The used/remaining stats don't tell the whole story)

If you're trying to determine whether your flash card is fake, this page is worth a look:

A compatability list for uSD cards is available here.
This list only shows two models of Samsung Pro that are known to be working, 16GB and 32GB models, not an 8GB PRO model as you have.

This does not mean your card is fake, just that nobody has reported a Samsung Pro UHS-1 Class 10 8GB Micro SDHC Card as working with a RPi's.

If you are concerned about a fake card, use f3 as mentioned by forest.
Alternatively, write an large file to the card, 7-7.5GB DVD ISO image (or multiple smaller images) should do, and check the source and destination MD5 hash.
The closer you get to filling up the card and then verify the file(s) are OK, the more certian that it's not a fake (but f3 is the difinitive test)...

On Windows, i use SummerProperties to add a "checksums" tab to the property popup of explorer which makes checking MD5 hashes simple...
Alternatively return your card to place of purchase and ask for a refund, then buy something from the list of known working cards.

Unfortunately the SD card compatability list is a little flawed in concept if one card can work with one OS yet fail with another version as seems the case.
If a known working card can suddenly stop working when updating the RPi OS, that's an issue Confused
And it's not at all obvious from the list if any failures have been arrtibuted to fake flash cards Huh

Imagine if PC's ability to boot was dependant on the make and version of HDD combined with the version of OS used, and a list was used to keep track of what works and what doesn't Rofl

In reality what the RPi needs is a more reliable boot medium that is tollerant of the media itself...

[edited to clarify that copying and verifying files is not a definitive test, as noggin seemed to imply previously, best test for fakes is f3]

Yep - I should have been clearer. I wasn't suggesting it as a test for fakes, more a test of whether it functioned correctly.

F3 was giving me problems, but I have H2testw running in a virtual box right now on the card.

I appreciate the help.

Sounds like you bought & activated an mpeg2 license on your old Pi and didn't do it yet on your new Pi.

Shame.
Looks like you have an 8GB card so i'd ask the seller for a full refund.
If you can't get a refund, or it's not wiorth a big argument, you should be able to use the f3fix tool to fix the card so it presents as a 8GB rather than a 16GB.
Then it should work OK, or so i've read... Nod

I picked it up off of Amazon and don't have any of the original packaging. I'm about to file a claim with the seller, but not return the card. If I could get a legit 16GB out of it that'd be great, but I don't see it happening.

If I made the card into the 8GB that it actually is, would I be able to use OpenELEC/Raspbian on it without having issues?

Complain to Amazon and make sure they know the seller is providing counterfeits. They will probably refund you even if they don't trust your evidence.

Filed a claim, left a review & sent a email to Amazon!

Now Im beginning to wonder how many other fake cards I have.

I can't believe this is a real thing lol.

To be honest I'd be very wary of using it. The people who make cards with fake capacity know they are likely to cause corruption and lost data.
I'm sure the flash chips are not made by the name on the label and I'd guess they are the cheapest, slowest, least reliable flash chips they could find.

I got stung a few years back with a great price 32G USB stick from eBay. Turned out to be an 8G card that had been hacked to claim 32G.
Backed up a load of files. Reinstalled Windows. Tried to restore the files and it was all garbage. Lesson learnt.

I've seen it reported that a third of all flash memory devices sold are fakes. Be vary careful with eBay and Amazon marketplace (stuff directly sold by Amazon I have more trust in).
