Overclocking Pi 2
#16
1000/500/500/2 without issues. Didn't even check other values until now.

Old "turbo" settings would have the last value as 6 instead of 2
Anyone know what difference that would make ? Are there any benefits in changing the over voltage from 2 to 6?

The new CPU doesn't need so much extra voltage to be stable at the above overclock

arm_freq=950
sdram_freq=450
gpu_freq=350
gpu_mem=512

If I go to arm_freq=1000 I get some freezing. Openelec runs so efficient it hardly puts a dent in the qaudcore cpu and it runs extremely fast.

Thank you. Makes sense mate.

Tried both OpenELEC and OSMC Alpha 4 with:
arm_freq=950
sdram_freq=450
over_voltage=4
over_voltage_sdram=2
force_turbo=1
core_freq=450

Running OpenELEC i can play: http://jell.yfish.us/media/Jellyfish-50-Mbps.mkv

Switching to OSMC i can play: http://jell.yfish.us/media/Jellyfish-80-Mbps.mkv

Is that running strictly from an SD card or have you offloaded 'Storage' to USB?

Both on SanDisk Ultra microSD.

Impressive! Are you not worried about SD card corruption? I hear that was a concern for Raspberry PI ver. 1s?

No, i have used SanDisk Ultra SDcards on my 2 Pi B for a couple of years and am running them overclocked aswell:
arm_freq=1050
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=500
over_voltage_sdram=4
over_voltage=6
force_turbo=1
Never any problems and using OSMC i can play the same files as my Pi 2, they are just a bit slower in menus.

Excellent news. I was wondering about trying out USB 'Storage' on my Pi 2 but I have a decent SD card so will try overclocking using your settings and see how it all feels. Cheers mate!

This has been stable with me for 3 days no lockups:--

arm_freq=1000
sdram_freq=500
core_freq=500
over_voltage=2
gpu_men=256
force_turbo=1

For those that don't want to overvolt this was stable for me:--

arm_freq=950
force_turbo=1
gpu_mem=256

SD Card corruption, has been fixed ages ago in firmware.

Because of this and the fact that good microSDHC cards now exist, there is very little point even using a USB these days.
It may be a tiny bit faster writing but thats about it.

Thanks for sharing mate. Isn't gpu_mem set at 256 by default anyway ?

Yes, think so, it is in the default openelec config.txt anyway. Only put it down as some people like to increase..
