Hi guys.

Quick question around audio set up.
I have never really tinkered with any of the audio settings before as I've always just had sound coming straight out of my TV.

I stream from various sources and I always notice the files I play have differing degrees of quality. Some say Dolby. Some are labelled as 2.0. Some labelled as DTS etc.. But through the TV I've obviously not took much notice of that as it all sounds the same.

Recently I bought the following soundbar and subwoofer which has greatly increased the sound of my standard TV viewing 10 fold. I have an optical cable from the soundbar going into the back of my TV

I have my pi2 hooked up to my TV via hdmi and the optical cable from the back of the TV into the soundbar. The audio settings have been left as default within kodi all along.

Here are my current default settings.

I appreciate this is only a "2.1" set up but would I be able to take advantage of any of the other settings in kodi that are currently greyed out ? I.e. What will enabling passthrough options do for me ? Will it improve my Audio experience in any way in comparison to default settings ?

Thanks in advance

No idea why that image is upside down haha. But you get the ideal.
Full specs of the soundbar here including audio types it can handle. Double Dutch to me Smile

Best way is to try it out and see which you prefer. If you enable Audio Passthrough (and your TV plays ball - many will accept and passthrough AC3 from HDMI to Optical - but not all will) and AC3, and also try DTS, you can listen, compare and see what you think.

Useful article which tests which TV's can passthough AC3/DTS on to sound bar.
Note that many can't.
