RPi2 case with vesa mount
#1
There were several posts that the RpiB+ cases are very similar and can work, but not exactly the same. So, I am curious whether there are already any RPi2 specific cases out, which ideally feature a vesa mount as well. I am looking for the smallest possible solution (just the basic Rpi2 without any extra modules). Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I have not come across any VESA mount type cases for the RPi 2 yet but....

The cheapie case I bought specifically for the RPI 2 from RS Online could easily be stuck to the back of a TV with 3M double sided tape as the whole kit is that light, even with a couple of usb's plugged in.

Modmypi sells Vesa mounts as an add on to their own cases. I use one of their cases for my RPI 2 and it fits perfectly right out of the box.

Pimoroni do a versatile Vesa plate which allows a bare Pi, Pibow or Coupe, Cyntech, ModmyPi, Flirc etc. cased Pi to be VESA mounted : http://shop.pimoroni.com/products/omnivesa

I bought an RS components case (part number 819-3655) and despite it being listed as RPI-2 case, that's not 100% the case (pun intended) Big Grin

Although the RPi-2 fits nicely within this case, the mid plane cut-out for the heatsink does not line up with the CPU on the RPi-2 board, a non existant issue if you don't use a heatsink.
If you did want to install a heatsink, for whatever reason, then it's nothing that a sharp knife can't fix Nod

I haven't seen any asthetically pleasing vesa cases for the RPi-2 but as wrxtasy stated, the RS case is cheap and can be stuck to the back of your TV/monitor using 3M tape.
If you want to be able to easily remove the case, use 3M velcro tape instead of 3M adhesive tape.

Neither velcro or adhisive tape is as secure as nice metal vesa case but such does not seem to exist.
I'm a XBMC novice :)

Thanks for your replies. Let's drop the VESA idea then. What RPi2 case is confirmed to 100% fit? Understand the RS one does not do so. Any other one that is confirmed to fit? I'm fine with a cheap solution, but indeed prefer something that fits 100%.

I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion.
The new cheap RS - RPi2 case fits 100%. Just don't use a heatsink which is not needed anyway. This has already been stated above.
My Turbo Overclocked RPi2 never gets of 68 degrees C (Thermal limit 85) with no heatsink.

The only minor mod I had to do to it was remove a tiny plastic lip from the edge of the slot in the case where the microSDHC card went. This is a result of the plastic injection moulding manufacturing process. I used a nail file to smooth it out, it took 10 seconds.

Pimoroni are shipping 1B+/2B compatible Pibows and will also sell you a new slice for older 1B+ Pibows if you already have one and want to move to a 2B. You could also attach a Pibow to a VESA mount with the Pimoroni OmniVESA plate should you wish.
The Cyntech case also works fine with the 2B.

As has been pointed out already, lots of cases fit if you don't need a heatsink. There are quite a few variants with layers that are screwed together. These are ideal for VESA mounting. All you need is a VESA mountable plate, drill four holes, use slightly longer screws (some have screws long enough), and you're done. Really simple DIY project if you don't like the 3M idea.

And no need to drill holes with the Pimoroni OmniVESA plate if you have a case that is supported by it (including the Pimoroni models, but also others)

The OmniVESA supports the FLIRC case which has an integrated heatsink if that is important to you : http://thepihut.com/products/flirc-raspberry-pi-b-case

Do these come for 200/400 x 200/400 VESA?

As for the FLIRC case, I doubt the heatsink is of all that much use for the Pi 2. Not that it would need it.

I would just get one of the many nameless cases that has a little hole to mount on a screw, and then just buy one bolt for one of the VESA holes, and presto, cheap VESA mount.

Or velcro.

Yeah, was thinking that too. The Pi would probably look a little silly in the middle of a big screen TV anyway.

http://shop.pimoroni.com/products/omnivesa says "The OmniVESA supports 75mm and 10mm spacing mounts" (I think 10mm is a typo for 100mm) It only uses two mounting bolts. It looks designed for the Vesa mounts on smaller monitors, so may not work on larger VESA mount devices.

I agree on the heatsink.
