#46
i update to 0.1.3 , i cant watch the video in kodi, it doesnt even display the title, yes G 1 is good, i set cpu to low , i got a normal 4 years old laptop, i identify my drive, no the laptop didnt try to play the video, internet was open but i didnt touch the laptop while it was working.

try it with 1.3, same result. my makemkv softw. say good until april 25, i did add a dll file in handbrake and makemkv (libdvdcss) .

I will try to get another disck and try again, this casino royal dvd is a 2 dvd set, could it be that ?

Also why do i need makemkv and handbrake, why not just one of those ?

Thanks again

Sounds to me like a bad disc/drive or something with MakeMKV. Doesn't Kodi usually play DVD's out of the box on Windows? I'm not sure. I'll add some more logging. Try just ripping it using the MakeMKV GUI. That should tell you what's going on.

MakeMKV breaks the encryption and rips the DVD to your hard drive. Handbrake compresses it so it takes up a a manageable size.

if i do it directly with makemkv it work, i have a playable file after it is done.

Well, that's confusing. What happens if you open a command prompt and enter the following?
Code:
start /wait /b /low "" "C:\Program Files\MakeMKV\makemkvcon.exe" mkv --decrypt disc:0 all --minlength=2700 "G:\1"

tlchris, the newest version includes more debugging info and validation. If you want, you can send me a debug log, which should give me all the info I need to figure out what's going on.

tlchris, It looks like you are still using the old version, without the extra debugging info, but your output of MakeMKV works just as well. And there we have it! Thanks. I'm guessing your external hard drive you are ripping to is formatted as FAT32, which has a per-file file size limit of 4GB. Since the temporary file MakeMKV was going to create would have been 6.7GB, it skipped creating it. I'll add a check for this issue to the next version. There is nothing else I can do on my side, except let you know the problem. You will need to rip to a hard drive that is formatted with NTFS. However, all hope is not lost, you have two options to continue:

1) Use a folder on your system drive for the temp folder. This will already be formatted with NTFS, and can handle much larger files.

or

2) Reformat your external hard drive with NTFS. More info on that can be found here.

Do one of those, and you'll be ripping DVDs from your couch in no time!

I just updated Couch Ripper (v 0.1.5) with better errors for when trying to write on a FAT32 drive, as well as when no disc is present. Language is now chosen via a dropdown to reduce confusion. I also fixed an issue where a lot of options were being hidden. If you already had a config prior to upgrading, double-check your language settings. It *should* work with either the old or language format, but you might accidentally rip in Arabic too.

I can not wait to try this out. I just need an optical drive... lol. It will be worth digging one out to test this. I posted an enhancement at github but I will mention it here too. Renaming might be easiest with a little user interaction. I was thinking when you first start the rip if you can get the disk name and try to pull the title from it. Ether way show it to the user with the option to edit it. After that do a IMDB search and let the user select from the top 5 or so results. You could store that and rename the file and move it to the library. Maybe even update the Kodi library.

It sounds easy when I say it but I am sure its not. This is a great job and I really appreciate your work!

Thanks. If you get an optical drive, let me know how it works for you. I've got to put some thought into how I'm going to handle renaming. That would be one way to get a correct title. I don't think I'm going to do any automatic library updating. You don't want to be putting your encoded files right into your library without checking them. Lots of times Blu-rays can have multiple identical titles, and DVD extras can get picked up and ripped, etc.

I have just installed this in Libreelec and got MakeMKV and HandBracke from the unofficial Openelec repository.
Where can I set the custom path? in the Add-on Settings of Couch Ripper I do not see theses settings.

Sorry for the delay. Did you get this figured out? There's an option for both of those in the Couch Ripper settings. They are just called "Path to MakeMKVCon" and "Path to HandBrakeCLI".

Hey psysfaction, if you still wanted to use this addon, I realized the latest changes messed up visibility of some settings. They should all be fixed now if you download the latest version.
