Extra new Fanart types scraping - CDart, clearlogo, discart, banner ect
#1
Just to make a nice official thread for this request that has come up many times.

I'd like to see extra fanart scraped and included in standardized database fields without the need for using a special add-on. After migrating my media to a new NAS recently I realized how confusing it was with all the add-ons that download extra artwork such as the Artwork downloader extra fanart script or the CDart manager script.

There is some debate about whether these new artwork types should be included in the default skin or not which is understandable, but I think it should be at the very least included in default scraping so Skinners have that choice.

Clearart.png 1000 x 562
Clearlogo.png 800x310 or 400x155
Discart.png 1000x1000
Banner.jpg 1000x185

Suggest DB Fields for the "art" table

media_type clearart
media_type clearlogo
media_type discart
media_type banner

It has been argued in the past that it would be good to have an extensible system to add new artwork types but I personally DO NOT think thats a good idea. I believe artwork should be standardized to only popular fanart available from metadata sites, otherwise you end up with a mess of artwork that is different from skin to skin. Its all about standards and this should be enforced at Kodi level imo Wink

I would like to see this as a standard scraping feature for Movies, TVShows and Music and also include with local scraping.

They're already included in standardized database fields, so it really just needs support from scraper add-ons.

they are exported as <movie_name>-foo.ext

Some more discussions with this request have been brought up before here:

http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=182466
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=212681

Also see thse other somewhat related discussions here which lists more metadata currently not all scraped into Kodi databases by default:

This include additional fanart types like CharacterArt, Extra fanart, Extrathumbs, and Season Banners/Thumbs:

Sites like https://themoviedb.org, https://thetvdb.com and http://www.theaudiodb.com contain a lot of commonly used image types that are almost all considered industry standard in the world of media players / HTPC today.

However other popular fan art sites like http://fanart.tv and http://www.htbackdrops.org contain many more image types that are not really "industry standard", but they still add a lot to that WOW-factor many of us love Kodi for.

How does one select which type of images should be supported today and which ones should not? Does one have to choose and limit these?

Two more from fanart.tv are CharacterART and Extra fanart/thumbs

And both theaudiodb.com and htbackdrops.org also hosts Discart as well as Music Artist Thumbnails (1:1)

Today you can use the Artwork Downloader addon to download most of these image types:

Still unsure why Artwork Downloader uses different naming conventions than Kodi. Seems it they should use the same for everything. As it works now, having AD installed and configured for local artwork when you scrape a new movie of TV Show Kodi will recognize the artwork is there but it won't "install" it automatically. Would be great if Kodi both recognized the local artwork (not went searching for missing art) and scraped it the same way it would for posters or fanart that it already does. Doesn't seem like something that's oerly complicated. It's there, it's recognized, it's just not automatically added.

AD install local extra art if detected? Yes/No. Done.

Also I added Back cover and Spine Cover to TADB.

Would be great to get real support for this in Kodi's scraper system.

See example here:
