How does this rate compared to the asus ? Also is it easy to load openelec on this ?
Ohh one last question would my a usb harddrive connect ok ?
Im looking at it for a gift. Was going to get the asus from USA but if this is as good then I may get this.
Colour no issue as it will be in a cabinet

Its a chromebox like the ASUS except the Case. Hardware is the same. To load Openelec follow the Wiki Entry. A USB Hdd for Storage is no problem.

also important to note that the specs are wrong, it uses a M.2 SATA SDD, not eMMC. And while it has 4GB of ram, it's single channel only, so a slight performance penalty vs 2x2GB.

Not quite the same hardware. HP only has one SODIMM slot for RAM, not the two that the Asus has.

Also the cooling solution in the HP is deemed not quite as good as that in the Asus AIUI, so you may end up with increased fan noise.

In UK terms, though, £119 for the 4GB model is still a great buy. (If you can hide it to avoid looking at the hideous colour)

Thanks for all the replies . Seems decent then as will be hidden especially with that colour and should also avoid noise from the fan being an issue

In was about to get the ASUS from Maplin at £170. I would much rather the ASUS for noise mainly but is it worth £50 more?

I'll let users who own the hp chromebox to chime in but heres a video

except for the colour the reviewer seems to think it has higher asethetic value, i'll let you decide on that.

Also is a sale on for assu chromebox (2gb ram) for £99.99 at argos
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...rrer=COJUN

seems as though it was on 5 days ago accroding to this

I checked and none close to where I live (not surprised thats a cracking deal) but you can check if any still available close to where you live.
on that thread (hotukdeals) there it talks about the

Samsung Series 3 11.6 Inch Wi-fi Intel Chromebox - White, you need to ask here about how it differs to the hardware in asus and hp but thats a further £10 reduction ( although its Refurbished with 12 month guarentee)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161468058635?c...rmvSB=true

it cant be a coincedence that retailers are getting rid of old stock. seems like something new is coming.
@rs1800 you can do alot with £50, so unless noise gets on your nerves that much the currys deal IMO is the better deal.

The Argos deal is an "online special" and it was posted here 12 days ago. It was out of stock when first posted and I've been checking the link daily ever since and in that time there has never been stock available to buy online.

I'm hopeful that it will come into stock and if it does I will update that thread if no one else does before me.You can also sign up on the Argos page for an email alert to be sent to you when it comes into stock.

Not even sure that I will buy it if it does come into stock as I am perfectly happy with my Pi2, will have to wait and see if there is anything in my wallet at the time....

The fact that official HP, currys, and argos are having these deals is pointing to one thing only IMO, end of line stock and waiting for something new. so IMO no new stock will be avilable...but we shall see

No question in my mind, these units are all end of life. My hope is that Asus is going to clear all the remaining stock from their warehouse through a large retailer who can get shut of it quickly i.e. Argos. And that Argos have put the deal on their website to get the likes of us talking about it whilst they await the stock to arrive.

Blind optimism on my part I know! Big Grin
