I'm running Kodi 14 on my RPi 2. I don't have a local library, all my media consumption is from online sources. Do I need to purchase the license keys to get hardware decoding? Or does that apply just to local media playback?

I believe that it applies to any MPEG-2 or WVC1 media that you wish to decode with your RPi. H.264 is already enabled.
Experience: It's what you get when you were expecting something else.

Thanks guys. I think I should've worded the question differently.
Do most of online streams encode the videos in MPEG-2? Or H.264 is what everyone uses?
