It seems that it isn't working with smb:// paths.
Local directories are working without any issues. So I guess it's a bug.

This won't ever work. You have to write an addon, which gathers images from a website (like a scraper)
Each website and code is different.
smb:// is a network protocol to address shared folders from a NAS for example
