Kodi Video Competition
#1
Since ours users can obviously generate high quality content, we're now looking for some more. Specifically, videos that show an introduction to Kodi and additional videos that show how to complete steps.

Requirements
- Confluence Skin only.
- No piracy add-ons installed or visible.
- Narrated in English (If you can't do this then please make sure you leave space for this to be added).
- Sources to be made available to the XBMC Foundation (Kodi).
- Any music used must not violate copyrights.
- 1280*720 as a minimum resolution.

Required Topics for Introduction to Kodi video
- Videos
- Music
- TV Shows
- Movies
- Files
- Adding Sources
- Settings
Maximum Length: three minutes

Guidelines for Guide Videos
- Can be for individual functions or covering entire topics, ideally two-three minute videos covering small areas "How to add new sources to Kodi" would be good.
Maximum Length: none

Resources
Logo: http://kodi.wiki/view/Official:Media_center_logos

Copyright
Any videos submitted must allow for the XBMC Foundation, Kodi, to use, modify and distribute for any purpose without permission.

Where will these be used?
That's a good question. If we get enough then you'll find out, at the very least on the official Kodi YouTube channel and featured heavily around the website and Wiki.

Is there a prize?
A massive thank you from the Team, as well as a credit reference for your work and possibly more.

What about source material copyright?
Big Buck Bunny is an option, there are plenty of similar videos available. However, videos should be short with a voice-over, so Fair Use laws apply (please, feel free to correct me on that.).

Anything else I should know?
Please, no logos on videos (if you're part of a company or organisation).

Please upload your entry onto YouTube or Sendvid (sendvid doesn't require an account. but also doesn't like HD).
Please read the online manual (wiki) & FAQ (wiki) before posting.

Big Buck Bunny is a good "Creative Commons" video to use in any demo videos:

please not again Big Buck Bunny - I can't see it anymore. There are many other Blender movies out there that will work (Elephants Dream, Sintel, Tears of Steel).

edit: btw - I don't think these videos need a special user created intro - this should/could/will be added by us in order to get a unified look (I think).

I read that Yatse was removed from Google Play store simply because something as silly as it included screenshots of copyrighted content like movie posters. Do you really think that YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, and Facebook, etc. will be as restricting when it comes to things like movie posters in how-to or introduction videos for Kodi when they show only for seconds?

Anyway, if that is the case can I suggest you build a shared common dummy library of free to use movies and older films that have fallen into public domain under copyright law? This common dummy library would contain a zip package with empty files with the names of public domain movies that metadata and images can scrape for, or can include nfo and images.

Rankings of the best movies in public domain:

Here are a few public domain sources if you also want to download these movies:

Having a shared common dummy library with only old classic movies in all how-to guides and introduction videos for Kodi could also help to create a unified look and feel to them.

Again, just checkout that very stylized design on these older painted posters from the 30's and 40's

Might be a fun idea too only see these old classic movies in all Kodi videos, though a problem might be that these are missing additional artwork such as fanart backdrops, etc.

Actually, I do think Youtube will be less restricting, simply because they've already set up their content filters and almost all are based on sound or moving video. We don't want to actually play instances of movies or tv shows beyond the Blender films or public domain content (I'm a big fan of the silent movie The General), but showing posters inside our own interface should be no problem.

I think we should come up with a guide and also link to screencapturing tools that could be used. It would probably be good if all videos used a common language as well, not that someone is doing something like "hey yo, whaaaaaazzzzzup Kodians, XYZ in da house yo. Check out this vid tutorial on how to pimp up your fav MC with a seriously cool lookin' crazy shit skin, yo." Smile

edit: it would probably also be good if all videos would use the same library, which we could provide using stub files I guess. Just some ideas.

There is a prize!

The winner will receive a free (inc. shipping) t-shirt from our new range. You will be the first (or one of the first) to receive the item, you'll also be able to see the design before it's announced.
