Linux TVHeadEnd Setup
#1
Hey guys,

So I reinstalled OE to 5.0.6 as a clean install then upgrade to 5.0.7.

First off my tuner is PCI so here is the pastebin:
sprunge.us/eeZV

I have access to the backend, but the wiki says:
Configuration -> TV Adapters

But that TV Adapters tab is missing, or not there.
I do have Config -> DVB Inputs -> TV Adapters, but I don't have the settings from the wiki to configure.

See attached, am I missing something?

I am unable to configure it like I used to, and cant figure it out.

You've shifted to the development 3.9.x version instead of the old stable 3.4. That's not as scary as it sounds, but things have changed.

On this version, you have your adapters listed where you've found them; the next tab is where you define networks (e.g. "Astra", "DVB-S"). Networks then have muxes (the next tab, so you can populate them by hand, let autoscan find them or simply use the 'pre-defined muxes' setting when you define the network); networks are also associated with adapters.

So, the cadence is: adapters are associated to networks, networks have muxes, muxes carry services, services map to channels.

1. Define a network, with muxes
2. Associate the network with an adapter
3. Wait for services to be discovered
4. Map services to channels

Sounds complex, but it creates a flexible model in which one adapter can support multiple networks, or one network can map to multiple adapters; it also separates channels (which is what programs such as Kodi see) and services (which is what the carrier signals actually break down into).

That should get you going...

OK thanks for the fast reply.

So what I tried was following this:
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1929846

I created a network called "Freeview" used DVB-T (as im in the UK)
Then I used pre-defined muxes -> UK-Oxford (im based in Reading, so thats pretty close).

Then I went back to the TV Adapters -> clicked on Universal LNB -> then under network its blank, but I tried to select Freeview, but nothing shows.
So I typed it in, but it keeps blanking it out.

So not sure what I missed from this point on?

You have DVB-S tuners, which are Freesat, not Freeview. You need to define a DVB-S network with Astra as your source if that's correct... select "28.2E : Astra 2A/2C/2E/2F/Eutelsat 28A" as the predefined list.

If you genuinely do have Freeview, then either you have the wrong adapter or something gone wrong with the detection, which is a different problem.

And if you get past that, you need the specific transmitter you're point to - Oxford isn't necessarily good enough as different transmitters broadcast on different frequencies (just as they did pre-switchover), and you need to know those specific carrier frequencies before you can pull the services from that signal.
