Solved Can`t update Kodi, in Kodibuntu
#1
It won`t update with the commands sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get upgrade?
I have also added the PPA for team-xbmc.

Here is what happens:
Code:
petter@stue:~$ sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade it needs to also install rtmpdump update, therefore a simple apt-get upgrade won't work.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Then I did it like this:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Worked like a charm.

Thanks! :-)

pettergulbra, was this able to get you to 14.2? im doing a fresh install of KodiBuntu but i guess its still 14.0 despite being in the 14.2 section? there is a note at the bottom saying:
"KodiBuntu, once installed, simply needs to run an update to load Kodi v14.2"

but ive tried everything in the wiki and what you did above and cant seem to get it to upgrade?

any pointers?

NVM, this seems to have done the trick:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
sudo do-release-upgrade
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi

odd that KodiBuntu is not up to date on the main download page?

update-manager-core and do-release upgrade wasn't really neccessary, because this should get you an ubuntu 15.x version which isn't needed to update to Kodi 14.2.

A apt-get dist-upgrade is neccessary instead as this installs additional packages that are needed to update Kodi to 14.2

The wiki (Kodibuntu (wiki)) is nearly up to date

No really, kodibuntu ISO image is not updated on every point release of kodi.

Ok so I am moving from XBMC to kodi but for some reason I am unable to update KOdi to 15.2 from 14....the only one I could get to download from Kodi was v14 so I installed that and it worked fine but comes up with a message saying to update to v15.2....

Every time I follow the directions from the Kodi Wiki, I end up with Lubuntu and my Kodi is gone.......what am I doing wrong?

First I tried the steps listed above:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
sudo do-release-upgrade
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi

Which left me with Lubuntu desktop/netbook (no Kodi)

Then I tried this from the Kodi Wiki:

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

And ended up with the same....no Kodi Sad

It is v14 of lubuntu....

What is the usual process for upgrading Kodi? I thought that's what I did but it's not what I ended up with....

If it's 14.10 then it has no support by ubuntu itself anymore ...

provide:
lsb_release -a
apt-cache policy kodi
