Hi,

I am looking at the way file scan is working and how it identifies files content.

I ran into the CFileItem::m_mimetype property but when I try to output this property during a scan, it is constantly empty. I know Kodi mainly relies on file extensions to identify the content, but I am wondering if mimetype could be a way to improve the identification?

Well since we usually determine the MIME type based on the file extension that will probably not really offer any improvements as the decision will still be based on the file extension but just indirectly.
