Solved Is xmltv.xml required for EPG on all backends?
#1
I am running OpenELEC 5.0.8 with Argus TV as a backend on a Windows server. My question is - is a xmltv.xml and a subscription/free service really required to get EPG info? I only ask this because my parents 10 year old random Kodak TV can pull EPG info straight from the OTA signal. Is this because the TV has a built in function or is it a limitiation with Argus TV/all backends? Or possibly even a limitation on my tuner card (Hauppauge 1196 WinTV-HVR-1250)? Thank you in advance.

What is your broadcast system - probably ATSC?
NextPVR should give you OTA-EPG http://www.gbpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=...ion.OTAEPG

Yes, it is ATSC. I should have put that in the first post. I will give this a go and see how it works. Thanks!

Just an update, worked great. Not getting full show synopsis but atleast I can see whats airing. Though I probably just need to adjust some settings to get show info. Thank you again!
