ntel E8500 Wolfdale Dual-Core 3.167GHz LGA 775 65W AT80570PJ0876M Desktop Processor

It must be the CPU as the gfx card is almost the same one I have without issue on 1080p. While watching a 1080p video hit the keyboard 'O' letter and see where the bottle neck is...(look for high numbers on either the CPU or CPU or dropped frames) I would have thought with hardware acceleration toggled, the gfx card should take the brunt of the effort.

This doesnt seem right. I remember having the e2160 and nvidia 8500gt and even that combo, which is lower end than what you got, played 1080p smoothly. Might be some software issue here. Are you running windows? Try a video player like potplayer. Does 1080p still stutter? Might even be some issue with the video driver.

I realise I'm not adding to the thread with this post but is there anywhere you can direct me to get all the keyboard shortcuts? All I know is C for menu and now O.

E2220 should play 1080p with no trouble. (Unless were talking of 40+ M
bs videorates) my mac mini 2006 which is upgraded with c2d 2.33ghz 667mhs fsb plays big buck bunny 1080p60 with minimal dropped frames.1080p24 should be a walk in the park with e2220 (dual core 2.4ghz 800mhz fsb), even with software decoding.

Should work.

Have you tried f.e. openelec?
I had a AthlonXP 1800+ and an pci nvidia 7400GT running 1080p h264 movies running without any problems.
