Req Kodi UPNP server as service
#1
Dear Developers:

I wonder if you can make Kodi UPNP server as Windows Service. My main HTPC is located in the living room and there are some other Media players in other rooms. Current configuration is the HTPC will be waken up and start Kodi as soon as other media player power on. I do not want to start Kodi main interface UI every time when I start/wake up the PC, I only want to start Kodi UPNP server.

Look for the Kodi headless thread. That's pretty much the main point there.

thanks for the info. I will test. However I still need to use full Kodi when I or other people use TV in living room. A quick question: What happen if I start Kodi when Kodi headless is running already?

You will get problems because some services of the second instance will not be able to start (due to tcp ports already bound).

Why not use a upnp server that is actually designed to run as a service? Or share your media via smb or nfs?

Ok, so this solution is not ideal for me.

Yes, I can use SMB share but some media player does not have option to play the movies in network, they support DLNA only

I am using the wrapper.exe from this post:

It starts kodi 14.x "headless" in portable mode. Works pretty well. You can bring up the GUI any time you like by only starting kodi.exe in portable mode (option "-p") then.

Brgds,

Well install a DLNA server that is designed to run as a service.
