Is there a way that i can boot straight to kodi rather than straight to the home screen on my android box?

Not to my knowledge but you can use the Android app Auto Start, in which you can choose any app to be the first to load.
Personally I have found that to be quite slow if you are sitting in front of the screen but handy if you want to do something else at the time of loading.

I have it in AFTV but it requires root on that box. I guess as long as you have access to replace the launcher it is no problem
