Openelec mkv too soft
#1
Hi, very happy with Openelec and its features (im going to donate)
except that i find it too soft looking with 1080p mkv.

Im coming from Madvr and was wondering if some sharpness slider can be implemented that mimics Madvr detail sharpening.
(im seeing some video scaling options but that's only for non linux builds right?)

Not supported in current version. We did support it in a previous test build with a sharpness slider.

If you ssh in when video is playing you can adjust the scaling kernel with "vcgencmd set_kernel"
E.g. for too blurry:
Code:
vcgencmd scaling_kernel 0   3   8  15  24  35  49  55  70  92 100 107 109 113 113 114 114 113 113 109 107 100  92  70  55  49  35  24  15   8   3   0
and too sharp:
Code:
vcgencmd scaling_kernel 0  -4  -9 -14 -18 -19 -15  -8  10  39  78 122 166 206 236 254 254 236 206 166 122  78  39  10  -8 -15 -19 -18 -14 -9 -4  0

Search for "mitchells" here to see a range of possible coefficients.

Could you please tell me the build number where the slider was in?

This was the first build with sharpness slider in:
http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1676229

But it is quite old and won't work on Pi2.

I'll look into bringing it back, but I've got a few things to sort out first.

Try this Milhouse build which has a sharpness control.

much appreciated!

i like it a lot, its very subtle. Depending on the source material sometimes too subtle.
Could we have it go from 1.0 to 2.0?
