Intemittent blank page after playback ends
#1
I'm using Kodi 14.2 with the included pvr.wmc plugin in a Linux environment installed using OpenELEC 5.0.8.

I've noticed twice now a situation where a program I'm playing back ends (either because it was over or because I hit the stop button). I'd expect to be taken back to the recording list, but instead I'm taken to an empty list that has nothing other than two dots, i.e.

..

If I select those two dots, I'm taken to another blank screen and then I'm stuck. The only way out is to hit the left arrow, which brings up the PVR menu on the left hand side. I can select the EPG, and then I can exit out.

Is this a known issue? Has anyone else seen this?

In general we don't control the kodi gui navigation, however this case might be an exception... Do you have serverwmc set to append the number of episodes to a series directory name? If so, when you are done watching a program - and if the number of episodes for this show has changed since you started watching - the directory name changes due to the new count, so the directory you were in is now empty. However hitting the 'two dots' should take you up a level and all should be fine again, so what you are seeing may be an unrelated bug

If you want to turn off the episode count display just to see if that's the issue set 'IsAppendingEpisodeCount' to false in the config.xml.

Hopefully we'll get episode count added to the gui in kodi proper so that this ugly hack will not be needed in the future.

I don't think that's the issue here, but it hasn't happened enough for me to say for sure. I can definitely say that this particular issue (empty directories because of episode count) does not ALWAYS cause the issue to occur, and it definitely never happened on XBMC version 13 or 12. I'll keep watching and see if I cna see a pattern...

In examining the logs, I noticed something that may or may not be relevant.

Both of my devices are using the same device name, i.e. "FamilyRoom". As a result, ServerWMC has added parenthetical for one of them, i.e.

FamilyRoom|10.1.1.81
FamilyRoom(3)|10.1.1.82

Is it possible that the use of the same name on both devices is causing ServerWMC to choke when one of them requests the recording list, and since the device is getting nothing from ServerWMC, it is showing me nothing?

I've actually only experienced this bug on one of my two devices (10.1.1.81), and I've just now changed the device name at 10.1.1.82 to something else. It'll be interesting to see if that bug goes away now..

It shouldn't, swmc provides the recording list to any client that asks for it, it doesn't filter by client name. Is the device that is showing the problem a different version of kodi then the other device?

Then why does it show and log the client name, and why does it add (2) after the client name when there's duplicates?

Both devices are using an identical version, configured identically. In fact, the second was deployed from a backup of the first, which is why they both had the same client name.

I've changed the client names and haven't seen the problem since then, but it may not have been long enough...

Right, i just meant that the command that returns the recordings list doesn't care which client asked for it, it just returns it.

Problem has definitely occurred again. I suspect its a Kodi problem. I opened a ticket with them. I'm surprised that nobody else has experienced the problem though. Maybe it only affects the Linux/OpenELEC version. Sad

I see this all the time. I believe if you go into a folder with recordings, delete a recording, then watch a show. When the show completes it will bring you back to an empty recording list. I think this is due to the episode numbering scheme. The folder you were in when the show began playing no longer exists. i.e. My Show (5) is now My Show (4). I have always pressed "back" on the remote and am returned to the main Recorded TV listing. I will try and select the ".." entry next time i see it and see if i end up in no man's land as you described. If so it should probably be fixed. I'm guessing by clicking the .. Kodi gets the current directory then tries to find the parent. Since the current directory doesn't exists it gets confused and drops you somewhere. Not sure if we can do anything about it in the PVR software.
