Kodi video caching questions
#1
I've enabled caching for all sources from the advanced settings xml file. I have three questions:

1. Does Kodi use video ram or system ram for caching?

2. If you set cache size in xml advanced settings file and then from within kodi view how much cache is being used during playback, it will always display 50% of whatever you have set in the config. IE: if you set it to use 50 megs for cache, Kodi shows it using 25, if you set it at 100, Kodi uses 50, etc. Why does it only use half of what you set?

3. If I have 1gb video ram and 4gb win7 ram, what can I safely get away with using in the config?

Thanks.

1. System RAM

2. It's gotten a little complicated in how it's actually calculated. I'm not sure on the exact reasons for this.

3. A safe bet would probably be to set one gig in advancedsettings.xml. That means three times is used (3GB), leaving you with 1 gig of RAM that won't be in use for cache when video is playing back. As long as you're only using Kodi, that should be enough for Windows and Kodi.
