sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get -f install

see also the wiki which fully describes this process.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

The order goes from top to bottom, one command after the other.

Thanks again, sorry to sound really thick, so do I input the first command then press enter let it run, then the second command and so on or does each command get put under each other then let them run? sorry again for not understanding what probably is a simple instruction?

enter first command, press return button, wait until finished on screen
enter second command, press return button, say Y, wait until finished
enter third command, press return button, see on screen if you are asked a question.

-> www.openelec.tv this was especially made for you, no need to update with "cryptic" commands.

I followed these steps twice on a clean install (Helix 14) and it took me straight up to Isengard.
How do I make sure I upgrade to Helix 14.2? I prefer to install the stable version.

Some additional info:
I installed Kodibuntu from a live USb on a 32bit (Intel Atom) netbook.

Thanks!

The 32 bit version has the nightly repository installed. So if you do those commands it's normal that you will get the latest nightly.

From this point you have two choices...

1. Keep this installation as it should work fine in most cases and wait until Isengard is stable, channge the repo to the stable version and update again...

or

2. Change the repo now and update again...so you will get 14.2

Take a look here for how to change repositories:
