RCB is surely a wonderful add-on to kodi but it seems to have some problems managing HUGE list of files (MAME), and with advanced launcher shelling kodi and using another frontend for emulation can makes sense. HyperSpin is probably the easiest frontend to use, and the frontend that gives more freedom in terms of skinning. Indeed original HS themes are too much arcade-oriented and would not fit and HTPC, so I'm making an HyperSpin skin that will fit an HTPC or an emulation-box.
Sadly HS is not 16:9 native (1024*768 max) but ratio correction and flash smooth give decent result even on 1080p.
HS is said to be cpu-intensive BUT if you don't go too fancy with flash animation it runs decently even on low-end hardware: this skin, without dialog flash animation in system's menus, runs flawlessy even on a pentium4 3ghz.
