Unable to use my remote TV control with Kodi
#1
Hi all! First, please forgive me for my bad English, I'm French.

I just installed Kodi for Linux; all is OK. Except for one thing: I can't make my TV remote control to work with Kodi. My TV is an LG 42NL5400; it says that it's possible to sync via SIMPLINK. I just activated it from the TV menu, but it won't show Kodi in the list of devices. And in Kodi menu, into "devices" section, I only have "mouse and touch screen" activated; it won't show anything else. I guess the problem is around that: Kodi won't allow th show anything else than mouse and screen control; and the TV doesn't "see" Kodi.

Is there a solution?

Thank you very much!

CEC (wiki)

Depends on if your HTPC is CEC capable or not...

Quote: 6.4 Kodi Devices

Most HDMI ports on computers (onboard or via GPU) do not have integrated support for the CEC feature, but instead can use a external CEC adapter, such as the ones from Pulse-Eight, and some more recent Intel motherboards come with a integrated HTPC header to allow you to connect an internal CEC-adapter.

OK, thank you! I see the point. If I want my remote control to work, I must use this adapter. So I have another question: since this adapter is about 55 $, is it a good idea for me to buy another remote control? For example:

Thank you!

If you want a cheaper and perfect working solution, I would recommend a Flirc dongle. Wiith this dongle you are able to use ANY remote you like and it's configured in 10 minutes. I use it for myself with my harmony remote and I love it.

Flirc plus harmony is still quite expensive. Something like this works (even with the standard Kernel driver http://rtr.ca/sapphire_remote/
If I have helped you or increased your knowledge, click the 'thumbs up' button to give thanks :) (People with less than 20 posts won't see the "thumbs up" button.)

I never said, he has to use a harmony for that. I said, that "I" use a harmony with a Flirc but it will work with any cheaper remote, too

@Bouquins:

You don't need to buy it on Amazon.com...I didn't know you are from france, because you provided a link to amazon.com on posting #3. So you can buy it on amazon.de and let it ship to france

http://www.amazon.de/FLIRC-USB-Dongle-Me...ords=flirc

shipping costs to france is about 4,90€ for this seller. So total amount with shipping is ~35€. And then you can use any IR remote...even an old DVD-player remote which you don't need anymore, or any other ir remote which you can buy for a few euros.
