Don't use unity? Start kodi directly from lightdm?

I'll try it. As I understand it, I can switch from one to the other if I want. Thanks for all the help. Exasperating to spend money and try to do everything right, and everything works, then boom-- turn a corner and it's not working right, and no clear fix in sight!

Clear fix: Don't use compositing Desktop when running kodi (Unity, gnome, xfces compositor, etc.)
