Launching Kodi via Ikono TV / Llama (Fire TV)
#1
Ok, I've followed all the instructions I could find in the wiki and elsewhere, and I can't get Kodi to launch correctly via this method. Not sure what logs I can post as this isn't a Kodi issue per se, as I can launch just fine via Settings > Applications > Managed Installed Applications > Kodi > Launch Application.

When launching via the Ikono TV shortcut, Llama attempts to launch Kodi, but I'm just booted back to the Fire TV main menu. When I edit the settings in Llama to point to another app (crossy road for example), it will work just fine. Really puzzled with this, not sure where to start. Non root Amazon TV Box running both Isengard beta and 14.2 both have same result.

You don't need to use Ikono TV/Llama. You can happily uninstall both. Do this:

1. Install Kodi from your Amazon account on your PC, tablet or whatever. Not the Fire:

US: http://www.amazon.com/XBMC-Foundation-Ko...00TWM8IBA/
UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/XBMC-Foundation-...00TWM8IBA/

2. Sidedload the Kodi APK using ADBFire:

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Kodi_on_Fire_TV

3. Log out of your Amazon account on the Fire TV under Settings/Accounts (Deregister)

4. Log back in. Go to Apps, and wait for the applications to repopulate.

5. Go to Home>Recent. If your Kodi icon is not in there, open Kodi under Settings>Manage Applications, and then exit Kodi back to the Home screen.

6. If the icon has not returned, reboot your AFTV, and repeat steps 3-5 above until it does.

7. If you lose the icon again in an upgrade, repeat steps 3-6.

^^^ +1 ...the Llama workaround is no longer needed

Thanks guys, I've got the shortcut working now without Ikono TV, and the auto launch on start now actually works with Llama, so Kodi automatically opens on a reboot.

Amazon never contacted us back when we asked why we were rejected for Fire TV comparability.

It's true: Kodi has disappeared from Amazon. Oddly, SPMC is still there.

What happens next?

In slightly good news, if you've previously purchased Kodi, the icon will still be reinstated when you log in and out of your account. But no such luck if it's your first install.

Here's a way to launch Kodi, at startup, or with the Home Button (single or double press) that doesn't require rooting. I would recommend it over Llama.

Weird, it should still be on the Amazon app store. It's simply not approved for Fire TV, but it can still be used with any other Android device that has the Amazon app store installed.

Mightn't hurt to send the word upstairs to pester them about it.

They are aware and are waiting to hear back from Amazon. See the update here.

Amazon's intransigence on this is really annoying. If they block this for good, I'll buy an androidTV device and throw out the fireTV. The nexus player is $70.

Note amazon instant video works on androidTV too. You just need to sideload the APK.

That's a bit rash. No-one's talking about blocking it.

You can still load Kodi onto it, the same way you always have been able to do it. It's only the icon in the recent apps that's a slight complication. The same as it was a couple of months ago.
For that matter it's easier to manage than an Android TV.

ADBFire is your friend.

Stop ranting on this board and instead go send a message to Amazon customer service.
