I recently acquired a rack enclosure to hold all of my A/V equipment for my backyard theater. I am currently using an Asus Chromebox Celeron model inside my home and on weekends when we do movies outside I just unhook it and hook it up to my backyard theater system. Now I have the rack enclosure I would like to get a permanent pc out there but am not 100% sure what I want. I would really like to have a rackmountable pc of some kind just for the "cool" factor but it seems to me that another Chromebox a rack shelf, and some industrial velcro would save me a lot of money and headaches.

The Chromebox and rack shelf would probably run around $175. The challenge is to build a 2-4u rack mount HTPC with similar specs for around that price range.

Anyone here want to help me shop? Is it even possible?

It really comes down to whether or not you want to spend the extra money for the "cool factor" that probably only you will care about.

If those are the only 2 options, I'd stick with the Chromebox.
