v15 Behaviour in shutdown / sleep modes
#1
Dear all,

I've just installed Kodi Isengard with OpenELEC on my brand-new NUC5i5RYH.

I'm pretty impressed with it overall - but then it is a mature product that's been around for a while.

However - everyone has that one feature annoyance - so here is mine.

The shutdown options are: Power off / Suspend / Hibernate / Reboot.
In addition there is a cfg item where I can select shutdown option as shutdown or suspend.

In all states other than 'On', the host seems to shut down at OS level - which of course
is next best energy saving level apart from pulling the plug all together.

I'd like to see more of a server behaviour, where the interface to TV+AVR is independent
on the web-interface. This is exactly what my Dreambox does. With my remote I can
set it into sleep mode, which shuts down the TV interface & sets the box into a power-saving
mode, however the OS is still running, I can ssh to it, make it perform other services
such as retrieving nightly EPG updates and the web-interface is available - I can even stream
TV to my PC & watch via vlc.

Is is possible to set up Kodi with this kind of behaviour (other than just leaving it permamnetly on)?
Media permanently avail on the network via SMB, background tasks such as transmission can be
running continuously, potential network entry point from outside etc etc - advantages
seem many - though of course at the expense of higher power consumption.

Is that what this thread is about?

Any comment welcome!

cheers,
