Release Netflix style next up notification
Hi, I'm having an issue with The Nextup notification not playing next episode automatically, and if I click on play now instead of the video playing the show library pops up instead. I have checked the logs and apparently the script is running successfully.

I am running Kodi Jarvis 16.1 with the Xperience1080 skin with Emby for Kodi.

The script was working perfectly fine a week ago, and unless I changed a setting or some automatic update messed with something I don't know what's up.

If this has been covered before forgive me as I couldn't find anything.

Thanks for any help, if you need any logs feel free to ask.

Love this addon! Just a FYI on lebra elec Kodi 17 beta 6 (aeon mq 7) if you have use the "play from here" option in the context menu and also use this addon it crashes Kodi to the point only a hard reboot solves.

The crash occurs when one epsoide ends.

Not a huge deal once you figure out what's causing it.

Just wanted to make you aware

Thanks for the great addon!

I'm also having NextUp issues with the latest Kodi 17 Beta 7. Clicking on the play button of the nextUp popup crashes Kodi completely.

Not sure if this is still supported or not. The thread has been very dead aside from bug reports.

Hi All,

I thought I would freshen things up a bit and go with the now fashionable post play screen. The current next up method is still there but is now off by default, with the new postplay screen the default. I'm looking for beta testers here and feedback on usage etc. It still supports the play mode and still watching settings and now allows you to turn spoilers (images/plot) on or off from the postplay screen. The postplay screen (as the name suggests) comes in after playback has ended (so avoids problems like interaction with Trakt etc) and will also show 6 other tv shows you've recently been watching if you want a change.

For anyone ready to test either install direct from github or get the new zip here Version 1.0.31

Hey mate,

I gave it a quick test and it seems to work great. But I'm not sure if I like it Smile

A lot of shows have 30 sec credits at the end and I loved the old popup to switch to the next episode immediately. This major feature is gone with this screen.

What about displaying it in the same way the old default popup was shown?

Hmmm.. got an idea. What about just changing the "workflow" of the plugin?

- remove the "still watching?" window
- always display the popup, but only start the next episode if the user interacts with "select"
- if the user won't interact, show the new post play screen after the playback (without autoplay by default)

Howdy,

I'm not sure about combining the two workflows, this was why I left the older way in (for people who like to use it for starting a show before the end of the credits). Currently I feel it's either one or the other..but not both. Let's see how others feel.

I like the idea in theory, but for me this new feature absolutely takes away the simplicity and ease of use of the add-on.

To my experience most users don't bother with add-on settings (or skin settings for that matter) or don't know what to enable or disable.

When changing default behavoir of the add-on this drastically, it will lead to questions and bug reports in the skin forums.

Why not keep the old method the default and this new feature as an add-on setting, disabled by default?

I would like to do it the other way around, can you elaborate on which part of the simplicity is removed using this new method? The only difference I can think off is that with the postplay screen the user waits until 15 seconds after the episode has completed before auto playback starts. With the other mode autoplay would kick in just before the end of playback so about 15 seconds earlier.

If there is something I am missing though please let me know

Haha very nice Smile

I only added the home button in the default version for mouse users...apparently they have no way of closing the window otherwise. And I cannot see the show plot/spoilers button but again that's what custom versions are for.

On a related note...I have just added Aquarius to my watch list!

Could you add a next.watched property to get the watched flag of the upcoming episode?

I'm seeing some good potential in this new approach.

My concern is that this new window displays after the episode is finished, which makes it rather useless to me.

If it respects it's own add-on setting to display x number of seconds before the end, it would be better.

Right now I could just as well return to the episode window and play the next episode manually when the episode finishes. Or return to the home screen and use the In Progress widget.

From my perspective, the simplicity is removed the second you stop playback and return to a new window. And to begin with, this will be a new window people haven't seen before.

My solution would be to respect the add-on setting to display this new window x seconds before the episode is finished. And also to turn the window into a dialog, so skinners can have a transparent background. This way you can include the new content (in progress shows / previous episode, which I think are fantastic new features), but still keep the "old" layout, if you like.

EDIT: With a dialog displaying x seconds before the episode ends, it's possible to create something similar to this - but with the episode in the background instead of image:
