The only way to get Kodi on to your ATV1 is to download the following 40GB Crystalbuntu HDD image from this post:

https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/can-anyone-s...or/2527/51

Then follow instructions to dd the image to the ATV1's Hard Drive, overwriting what you have. You will lose the Apple Frontrow OS.
The Apple Frontrow OS you are running currently is able to be recovered should you change your mind.

First, OpenElec must be running from a usb stick as that is needed to install the HDD image:

dd Instructions:

Kodi (Crystalbuntu) Upgrade Links:

Sounds complicated, You bet !

If its all too complicated the successor to Crystalbuntu called OSMC is nearly ready for the ATV1. That will come with simple install instructions....

Crystalbuntu does not need much space to run at all. 720p files run reasonably well even with no CHD card installed.

I briefly played around with expanding it out to 160GB but ran out of patience.

OSMC for the ATV1, maybe a month or two. I think Sam Nazarko is working on the bootloader at the moment, which I believe is one of the last of the jobs needed before OSMC / Kodi / ATV1 release.

This is particularily true of the badly written Banned Addons that I do not use nor will not even mention.

(2015-06-13, 07:57)wrxtasy Wrote: This is the problem when you are not a Windows user.... working in a Linux enviroment.

PuTTY is only a terminal. It doesn't execute commands on the local Windows machine, only forwards them to a (remotely running) shell. That being Linux/OpenElec on the ATV1.

So we are on the same page, download Cyberduck for Windows, its far easier to use for file transfers.
https://cyberduck.io/?l=en

Then SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol) connect to OpenElec running from the usb stick. Cyberduck will use Port 22 by default.
You will need a usb stick that can store the crystalbuntu2.img.bz2 file size. Otherwise this will not work at all.

Using Cyberduck the crystalbuntu2.img.bz2 file has to be dragged into the folder /storage
You then issue this command in Putty at the command prompt OpenELEC:~ #
Code:
dd if=/storage/crystalbuntu2.img.bz2 | bzip2 -d | dd of=/dev/sda

Feet up, this will take a couple of hours.

Wait for the command prompt in Putty, then pull the Power cord and reboot to Crystalbuntu.

Then upgrade to Kodi Helix:

After that you may like Kodi Isengard Alpha2:

Now this is a nice surprise indeed, Kodi 15.1 on the ATV1 using a unofficial OpenELEC release from chewitt

Its a labour of love project and works really very well, with virtually all minor ATV1 annoyances fixed and a sensible thoughtful default configuration used. This is the best release for this the old ATV1 with a CrystalHD card yet Smile

Highly recommended !

And this is the relevant support thread for the above release:
