Not a total noob as I've got it broken with Firecore ATV Flash Black and got Infuse working. Infuse unfortunately only streams Apple compatible formats. Mp4 m4v. So I've installed Kodi but cannot find here an easy 101 on how to get Kodi to find my Movie and TV Shows on my iMac external drives. I have put them into Sharing Files and Infuse found them. I just had to add the smb ip address of my mac, add the workgroup and Mac name and it found them all and added metadata. Just didn't work as they are all mkv or m2ts. I've been into Add Source under movies in Settings and the choices confuse me. AFP should be the choice I guess but cannot get it to work upnp is probably wrong. I have had a good look at the FAQs here and the wikis but still confused. A little help please.
