Fire TV Fire OS 5.0 refresh rate switching
#1
Amazon recently announced Fire OS 5.0 developer preview that is based on android lollipop. Anybody know if the fire TV will be able to do refresh rate switching when it comes out? I heard refresh rate switching for android came out with lollipop but didn't know if the fire tv's hardware would be capable. Thanks!

Will the fire OS 5.0 even be released for the fireTV in the first place....we cant really confirm that yet. But maybe we can then use the tvHZ app to switch frames. https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...fire.tv.hz

The latest kodi beta for android does the frame rate switching automatically.

According to this Amazon blog, the fire TV box and stick are included:

Many people seem to be misunderstanding that article. It doesn't say that fire os 5 is coming to firetv, it just says that the firetv is an example of a product running fire os. Even the beta are only available for the kindle tablets, and not for the firetv, so i doubt they would release it for the tv and the stick. It would be great if they did,but i'm not getting my hopes up.

Knowing amazon, they might just end up releasing a new 4k wireless AC snapdragon 620 firetv together with the launch of the fire os 5 on q3 this year.

Don't know how much weight to put into the response but Amazon support said that 5.0 will be coming to Fire TV and Fire TV stick. Fingers crossed!

I see from AFTVNews that Amazon have released the developer preview for the FTV, and the stick. Based on 5.1 apparently, hopefully this will enable refresh rate switching. I'm going to attempt to install it when I get home.

Does anyone know who was responsible for adding in refresh rate switch to the Nvidia Shield TV when it came out? I'm just wondering if something further needs to be done for it to work on the fire TV. Worst case scenario just install the TVHZ app and force 24p.
