Hi all
Since I have announced it's a bug which it cannot show chinese name's subtitle in OSD when playback
in Kodi, I've give up and whatever subtitle OSD will be Orz, because the subtitle OSD function seems
to be useless for chinese users.

However, recently, I learned from a message that subtitle OSD can show chinese name when the file name
is UTF-8 format. So, we have to name these subtitle files to be UTF-8 format, but how to make it? Pls everyone
to teach me, tks~

As far as I know, all modern windows systems (NTFS) use UTF-16 filenames, so that shouldn't be a problem. If it is actually the file contents encoding, not the filename then yes, Notepad++ or windows notepad will work to re-encode the contents to UTF-8.

OK I saw your other thread. I think what you will find is that Kodi looks at filenames and tries to determine the language based on ISO 639-1 or ISO 639-2 standards for 2 or 3 letter codes for languages. The ISO codes only allow for ascii in filenames so that is the only thing that will be recognized. Even the current internet spec, BCP 47 managed by IANA only allows ascii letters and digits. So "UTF-8" filename is not an issue or help.

Also I think the language "names" as shown in Kodi are always in English with no localization so will always display as Chinese(simple) or Chinese(traditional).
