Question about Android IR remotes
#1
I need to replace my Armada M8's remote, but I want to be sure the IR remote I choose will work. I read on the Wiki that IR remotes "should" work, but when I tried to use my Rosewill RHRC 11002, Kodi didn't accept any inputs. Even after I reset the box. Does anyone have a tried and true remote, that didn't come with the box, that they are using on their Android boxes?

I have the Iclever wireless remote on my M8. I found it most frustrating as half the time i couldnt get commands to work. What happens is there is a small usb dongle thats only 1/2" long, and it plugs into the BACK of the M8. I got a 1m usb extension, and brought the dongle to the front of the unit. Works like a charm. I used to turn the M8 on with the remote that came with it, then turn it 180 so the dongle was facing me, but that was a pain.
The remote now works very well and fully controls the box.

I was looking for an IR remote. If I can't find one, I'll probably just go with the Rii i8+ or the Aerb keymote

All that use Android standard remote API should work.

And http://kodi.wiki/view/Flirc receiver should work with any remote.

I thought about getting a Flirc, but that's gonna be a last choice. How can I find out if it uses the Android standard remote API?

I use FLIRC with Android. Its programmed to map the full Kodi Keyboard controls to a IR remote.
This also works in Android for navigation and exiting apps and navigating about.

An Air mouse and Keyboard will still be needed to setup Android and fine tune the system initially.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a Flirc to pair with the remote that I'm using on my server. I just configured my old xbox 360 remote to work with Kodi, so I have a free remote on hand.

I'm pretty sure there's no actual Android remote API. Most Android remotes just show up as a "keyboard" type input. Even the ones with internal receivers are often just USB receivers soldered inside, but could be desoldered and connected to a standard USB plug and used on anything.

Thanks for the clarification. I was wondering about that when a prior poster mentioned it. Google searches turned up nothing of any use, so I figured that it was a little off. Went ahead and ordered my Flirc. It'll be here Sunday thanks to Prime.

Map the FLIRC for a Full Keyboard and program it with Keycommands from this list:

Works well Smile

That was the plan. My Flirc came in the mail today (Prime), and of my 4 remotes, all have issues. The Rosewill and Xbox remote send key-presses, but up is down, down is up, left is right, and right is left. I've erased and reconfigured multiple times to no avail. The other 2 are the remotes for my TV and receiver. While they work flawlessly in Kodi, they also simultaneously interact with my TV/ Receiver. I'm now on the hunt for a remote that's under $10.

I have my eyes on these four:

1. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Media-Rem...1249137011

2. http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-E422VLE-E320...61&sr=1-11

3. http://www.amazon.com/DIRECTV-RC66RX-RF-...61&sr=1-17

4. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-OEM-Origin...1249137011

Or, I may wait until payday and order this: http://www.amazon.com/Inteset-Universal-...261&sr=1-8
