Yes thanks for the confirmation, time to get the HardKernel devs to look at the Kernel methinks.

MX Player has no such problems, I'll have a look at the Logcat and see what the correct deinitialization looks like.

You have to use hw+ in mx player to use the same MediaCodec / stagefright interface as Kodi.
Might be worth a try to see if you can reproduce there.

HEVC 1080p decode issue sorted out this week by HardKernel with a replacement meson8b_odroidc.dts

An increase in the amlogic,ppmgr reserved memory from 16Mb to 32Mb did the trick and I now get 1080p amc-h265 decoding reliably in Kodi.
All Hardware acceleration settings are now left at default settings.

Amcodec decodes mpeg2 and h264 and Mediacodec (amc) decodes h265.

EDIT:
I will reopen this issue as Mediacodec h265 playback is unreliable. amcodec havoc (am-265) still needs trouble shooting for reliable HEVC decoding.
