Choosing hardware

I've researched a bit about this, and haven't really come to a conclusion about what suits me. I just want something where i can stream TV channels from in HD, and that's about it. I don't really care about future-proofing/extra features, but a wifi connection is a plus. I've seen a lot of recommendations for the Chromecast, but it is a bit expensive and I don't know how good the "android boxes", usually around £40-50 are. Any help is appreciated!

scaryscar6 do you mean stream or receive? The Wetek OpenElec boxes have Freeview HD (single tuner DVB-T/T2/) or Freesat HD (dual tuner DVB-S2) compatible tuners to allow them to work as Live TV receivers and PVRs (with an external drive added) The Openelec Wetek box is an interesting addition to the usual suspects of Chromebox (and HP 260 G1 in the UK) and Raspberry Pi 2 as a good basic Kodi box. Unless you need Netflix or Amazon Video, I'd not personally recommend Android solutions as they have lots of other compromises (or if not are quite tricky to set up).

Other internet streaming add ons for services like iPlayer (in the UK), and similarly SVT Play (Sweden), NRK Nett TV (Norway) etc. should work in those countries.

I mean just streaming from the internet. No point wasting extra money when I can get freeview straight from my TV.

Would a Raspberry Pi 2 be good enough for this? ^^

If you want to cover all the video codecs and that includes 1080p HEVC - this is the only Android device I recommend with properly sorted out Firmware, where everything just works: £71.99

http://www.amazon.co.uk/MINIX-Android4-4...nix+neo+x6

These guys are Kodi Sponsors as well, that does not influence my recommendation tho.

The RPi2 is very good as well, you will have to buy the extra WiFi, SD Card, Case, Power etc, and it does not do 1080p HEVC decoding. Its the best supported Kodi device tho.

You will find a whole bunch of reviews and happy people here:

You can get cheaper boxes with the same Hardware but they will be nowhere as properly sorted out and bug free as this device.
Basically you get what you pay for. Just pay a bit extra for something thats guaranteed to work.

scaryscar6 if all you want is to stream of the internet then the Pi2 would easily meet (and exceed) your requirments.

HEVC is only good if you really plan to play movies of local storage.

I would take the HP 260 G1 at just £12 more. Its equal to or better than a chromebox!

32gb M.2 sata
2gb ram
celeron dual core
free win 8.1

no way get an android box at that price when you got this available in UK

Yep - the HP 260 G1 is a real bargain. Just remember that you'll need a WiFi adaptor and a Displayport to HDMI adaptor if you want to use with with WiFi or a normal TV. Neither are hugely expensive. (I use wired networking on mine so only had to worry about Displayport conversion)
