Quote:All TV-channels and configurations got lost last time.
And 'last time' was with which exact version of tvheadend, please? I did many many updates without any problem. And if would have at least a little clue you would know where the config is stored and could do a backup before the upgrade.
Quote:By the way: Since they changed the htsp-protocol an upgrade also would render all clients unusable. E.g. devices with isengard (there is no update for openelec yet), devices running movian or showtime (ps3) and devices using vlc with htsp-plugin (windows/mac). They will all fail connecting to tvheadend 4.x, because they changed the protocol.
Isengard tvheadend addon do work just fine with tvh 4.0.8. Cannot speak for and don't care about the other clients. But I guess they all will not have problems with newer htsp version. And believe me, I do know really very well what exactly "they" changed. There are no(!) backward compat breaking changes from tvheadend 3.4 to 4.0
Quote:Version 4.x is known for being buggy. See this post for example. They recommend a specific (older) version because it was a bit better than all the others. The truth is: People who don't upgrade to 4.x very propably will have a better life.
Version 4.0.8 was suggested by "them" not because it is "a bit better", but because it is the current stable tvheadend version.
Beside this, there is an unstable not yet released daily changing version 4.1.x Use the stable version and you probably will be happy, use the unstable and you risk that things break badly. 4.0 vs 4.1 is indeed a huge difference! Stop mixing that. 4.0.8 is fine, 4.1.x probably not.
Hate to say that, but you seem to have absolutely no(!) clue. Sorry.
